Qin: Tomb of the Middle Kingdom

"Dare to explore the subterranean tomb of Qin Shi Huanghi, China's first emperor. Experience the mythology and culture on Ancient China. Match your wits against the Middle Kingdom's greatest dictator while exploring vast realms of mystery and untold beauty. Buried under fifteen stories of earth, filled with traps and pitfalls, the tomb has defied those who would enter it for 2000 years. Now its your turn to discover the wonder, peril and magical secret of Qin's unexplored underground palace. You control your destiny. It's you against Qin. Rare PC adventure!"--Box Description

"One of the most educational and literate games ever released, the game unfortunately suffers from the snail-like pace and puzzles that require meticulous reading of the on-line encyclopedia. Similar to Riddle of Master Lu in that you're trying to find the lost tomb of Qin, China's first emperor, Qin treats the subject much more seriously-- too seriously for most people. Still, its intriguing subject matter, excellent educational content, and well-integrated puzzles make it a game worthy of all Myst fans and those who crave an intellectual challenge and don't mind the lack of human contact." --Underdogs

Quivering, The

"The Quivering is a humorous, cartoon style adventure game, which spoofs the famous ghouls and goblins from historic horror flicks.

When Olivetti Franken-Stamp, a member of the Mad Scientist Guild, goofs on his latest scientific experiment, all hell breaks loose - literally! Every demon, murderer, monster and freak is back on earth causing major havoc and mayhem. Franken-Stamp urgently sends for Spud, his cantankerous, redheaded nephew, to come to the rescue. With the aid of his uncle's "Ghoul Cube", Spud must return all of the evil meanies to their rightful place.

The game is a first person, point & click adventure with whimsical, three-dimensional characters set in detailed graphical locations, which you view in 360 degrees. The collection of cute little creatures called imps is the key for saving games and solving some of the puzzles. Puzzles are varied and include the traditional ones (using inventory items, talking to non-player characters, etc.) as well as a few arcade style sequences." --Moby Games

Ravenloft - Stone Prophet

"The Stone Prophet is the follow-up to Strahd's Possession, set in the Ravenloft world, yet is really only related insofar as you can import characters. The Egyptian setting is very well executed, with graphics, plot, sound and music melding into a refreshing overall product. Definitely a better game than its predecessors on all counts, despite the frustrating number of "find-the-secret-button" puzzles in the early stages. The variety of NPCs you can interact with and many subplots are nice touches that add replay value. Fun, but nothing special." --Underdogs

Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession

"Lord Dhelt of Elturel was attacked in his own castle. The mysterious assassin stole the Hole Symbol of Helm, a precious amulet with magical powers. Lord Dhelt asks you to bring the amulet back. But when you kill the assassin and retrieve the amulet, you are suddenly teleported into an unknown area. The way back is blocked by poisonous mist, and there is nothing you can do but explore the hostile surroundings and to solve the mystery of the amulet.

Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession is a party-based RPG that utilizes AD&D rules. In the beginning you have a party of two people, using either pre-determined characters, or creating your own ones, picking from traditional AD&D races (human, elf, dwarf, etc.) and classes (fighter, cleric, etc.). Some characters will join your party during the course of the game, allowing maximum of four characters. Combat is done in real time. The 3D environment allows you to move smoothly through the game world, either with arrow keys, or by simply moving the mouse." --Moby Games

Realms of Haunting

"Realms of the Haunting is one of the best, if not THE best, occult games ever, featuring an outstanding, well-told story that evolves from the haunted-house cliche to a fascinating interplay of good and evil, with many plot twists. The game, powered by the improved version of 3D engine used in Normality, is a mix of action and adventure that, for once, truly appeal to fans of both camps. Puzzles are logical despite frustrating hunt-the-pixel annoyances, and the acting is above average. Horror fan or not, you won't be disappointed with this 4-CD epic. Highly recommended." --Underdogs

Reelect JFK

"On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was shot down by an assassin's bullet. Since that time, people have wondered how history might have been different if JFK had lived to complete his first term. Would America have gotten more deeply involved in Vietnam? Would the Civil Rights Act of 1964 have been passed? Would he have been reelected to a second term?

Reelect JFK is a first person simulation that puts you in the role of President Kennedy. You have survived the assassination attempt in Dallas, and must continue on your quest for reelection in 1964. Along the way, you will confront key political issues such as Vietnam and the Civil Rights Movement. You will also face the challenge of discovering who was responsible for the attempt on your life. You will play 50 game weeks, which will take you from the assassination attempt in November of 1963 to election day 1964. Your primary objective is to get reelected to a second term." --Moby Games

Resident Evil

"investigate a series of murders near Raccoon City. While searching the woods near the city, the team is attacked by something and they have to retreat in a mansion nearby.

A big mistake...

Player chooses between Jill Valentine or Chris Redfield and starts to explore the mansion, and it soon becomes very clear that it isn't just any mansion, but a hellish place where the undead walk the corridors and other horrors are lurking in the darkness, waiting to eat some heads. While solving puzzles, collecting stuff and shooting monsters, the player has to unravel the mystery behind this mansion and -if possible- get out alive." --Moby Games

"My results: in XP sound doesn't work, and there are some significant background graphic problems as well as timing issues (runs too fast). Also when you try a new graphic chipset it will sometimes crash and there's no way out except for a cold boot. I ran it in 98 too. The only difference is that sound does actually work, but the other problems are the same.  My recommendation is to play RS with PSX emulation with an ISO like this one." --GO

Once in Ringworld they'll try to uncover some evidence to clear their names, but they stumble across another universe-threatening plot. Reunion

"Reunion is a strategy game where players must manage the resources and development of a colony. From a central command area, players select from among different menus to control different aspects of the colony. Many of these menus also need the appropriate personnel in charge (commanders), whose skills and price tag vary. Typical menus include: The research screen where specific areas are selected, the production/buy menu which turns resources into goods, the colony building menu where construction can be scheduled and the colony's facilities managed, the galactic map where new planets are chosen for a closer look, and eventually colonization. Players can also consult with their commanders or go to "space local", the nearby bar for all the gossip. In order to produce new material, the player has six different minerals to mine and discover on various planets in the solar system." --Moby Games

Re-Volt

"For years, Toy-Volt has been producing toys and games for children all over the world. Within months of introducing their first products, Toy-Volt shot to the top! No one could put their finger on exactly what it was that made the toys so popular. Sure, they employed the best designers and marketers in the world, but there was something else about Toy-Volt toys, something almost.... magic.

Now, their newest R/C cars really start to live! In Re-Volt, you take control over one of more than 28 R/C cars and drive on 13 tracks. The game features different single- and multiplayer modes. The graphic engine is quite powerful, as it can display realistic reflections, light effects etc." --Moby Games

Ringworld - Revenge of the Patriarch

"A graphical adventure set in Larry Niven's "Known Space" universe. The centerpiece of the Known Space universe is the Ringworld, an artificially created planet that is actually an immense band orbiting a distant star (the upcoming game Halo borrows this idea for it's setting). If you aren't familiar with Niven's series, go out and pick up any one of the dozens of Known Space books and you won't be far from having to track down all of them.

In Revenge of the Patriarch, the player must travel to the Ringworld to uncover information which could prevent the alien Kzinti from starting another war with humanity. It follows the standard point and click formula for adventure games." --Moby Games

Ripleys Believe It or Not - The Riddle of Master Lu

"In this game, you control a historical character, Robert Ripley (1893-1949), a famous traveler and collector of rarities. One day, during a travel in Egypt, Ripley was attacked by mysterious Chinese assassins. The trail leads him and his Chinese girlfriend Mei Chen to the Forbidden City of Beijing. There he becomes involved in a mystery that will take him to exotic locations all around the globe.

The game plays like a traditional puzzle-solving adventure. Ripley will have to talk to various people, searching for information, but the main emphasis of the gameplay is still on puzzles, mainly inventory-based. The game features live actors filmed over pre-rendered backgrounds. Cut scenes are often presented as full-motion movies shown in small screens with close-up on the actors." --Moby Games

Road Wars

"Self billed as the "most realistic combat racing sim ever created", Road Wars is a driving and shooting game where twelve different characters race their armed and armored vehicles across a dozen assorted tracks. Although the emphasis is on racing and completing laps, cars are equipped with a variety of weapons to impede the progress of the other drivers including gatling guns, missiles, oil slicks, and land mines. Individual drivers also have personal advantages such as cheaper repairs or better traction. Players can compete in single races or three different league circuits of increasing difficulty. Seal Team

"Seal Team simulates American operations in the Vietnam war. Missions include Patrol (kill enemies), Ambush (kill enemies), Demolition (building or well), Rescue (friendlies), Recover (certain object), Snatch (capture enemy leader), and Observe (call in the fire support teams). The player controls a single character giving orders to the others, with his statistics improving as the game progresses.

True to the danger of Vietnam, you can run into traps like tripwire, panji stake pits, and more. As point man, you'll need to "mark" those so the follow-up don't run into the trap.

Seal Team is one of the few games in which you get to see the "riverine" attack boats, including the Swift and PBR's. Sometimes they serve as infiltration and extraction vehicles, other times as fire support.

To simplify gameplay, civilians and VC wear different colors of "pajamas". VC gets black, civilian gets purple. This makes target ID much easier." --Moby Games

Secret Mission

"An inconsistent adventure that features an interesting plot hampered by poor user interface, Secret Mission is a relatively unknown adventure game from French developer Microid, who would go on to produce a much more solid and better-known Amerzone CD adventure. Secret Mission opens with the tried-and-true adventure gaming premise: you wake up in a nondescript hotel room with an amnesia, with no recollection of who or where you are. After meeting a certain attractive young lady, you learn that you are Jeff, a double agent who pretends to work for the Americans, but actually works for the Russians. You are now in Opalia, an exotic Middle East country that is about to be embroiled in a coup d'etat: Vishaka, the prime minister, is planning to assassinate the King to usurp his power. Naturally, your mission is to find the evidence of this scheme, so that Russia can use it to gain influence over the country. The Americans are after the same goal, so you must not arouse their suspicion of your traitorous acts while you carry out the secret mission." --Underdogs

Settlers

"A strategy game with cartoony graphics and an innocent line in humour. At the start of the level you choose a starting point, the intention being to get lots of flat land as well as resources to mine and ideally existing sources of trees, stones and water (for fish). Your people are vying for supremacy with up to 3 others.

The gameplay focuses on resource management. Each building requires a certain amount of wood to be constructed, and requires particular resources to do its job successfully. Food must be produced (either fish, bread (requiring a windmill, grain-farmer and baker) or pork (requiring a pig-farmer and butcher as well as the grain-farm) to feed the people working in mines to produce the iron, coal and gold (as well as additional stones)."--Moby Games

Shadoan - Kingdom II

"This is the sequel to Kingdom: The Far Reaches. Many years ago, the wise Mobus broke a powerful amulet called "The Hand" in 5 pieces in order to protect it from getting into the hands of his evil brother Torlock. These pieces were sent to the far corners of the land. As the young Prince Lathan Kandor you have already retrieved the Black Mace, the Hunting Horn and the Orb of Mobus (in the previous game). Now you must retrieve the final 2 pieces (the Dagger of Arne and the Crown of Malric), defeat evil and be reunited with Princess Grace Delight.

This is an adventure from the makers of Dragon's Lair. The plot isn't exactly original or complex, but the animation is fluid and well-drawn. Gameplay is about using the right item or making the correct choice between the animated sequences; some of these choices are timed, meaning that you can lose health or even die, but there are plenty of opportunities to replenish your health. Of special note is the ever-present Disney-like music." --Moby Games

Shadow Watch

"Shadow Watch is a turn based tactical strategy game set in a near future world of international intrigue. The player has access to six Characters, each of which has special skills. The game is played in a series of missions with each mission having a different goal, such as the stealthy retrieval of secet documents or the extermination of an enemy force.

Although it is often compared to Jagged Alliance and X-Com, Shadow Watch is only vaguely similar to those games. It has a unique action point system where all actions take the same number of action points but action point may be gained by events such as being shot or seeing an enemy. The game also features a morale system where if a Character's action points go above their morale score they go berserk and become controlled by the computer until they can calm down. Also unlike the other games mentioned, Shadow Watch does not allow you to pick up weapons from fallen enemies. Instead, each character has predefined weapons and skills which make you use each character differently."--Moby Games

Shannara

"Quest for Glory creators Corey & Lori Cole to work on a game based on Terry Brook's best-selling fantasy novels was a match made in heaven. You are Jak Ohmsford, son of Shea (the novels' hero), who must seek the sword of Shannara to vanquish evil warlock Brona. Puzzles are easy but fair, with the best ones being those that require help from your teammates. Gripping story and puzzles will keep you playing to the very end. Highly recommended, but be warned: puzzles closely follow the novel's storyline, so if you have read the books, you'll likely find the game far too easy. Overall, one of the best fantasy adventure games ever made, despite a predictable plot. Two thumbs up!" --Underdogs

Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire

"Alien Crossfire is an expansion pack to Alpha Centauri. It adds seven new factions, two of them the aliens who left Planet before the humans arrived, new technologies, new city structures, and new units. The two new alien races are radically different from any other human faction, right down to the unit art. You can mix and match any seven factions from the expansion pack and the original game, but the aliens have to go together or not at all. The other four human factions include a seafaring race, and an even more zelous enviromental race then the original Gaians.

There is also a handy Faction Editing tool included, for all your editing needs!"--Moby Games

SimIsle: Missions in the Rainforest

"My most favorite "Sim" game of all time aside from SimCity 2000, SimIsle is a fun and challenging tropical island simulation. You must manage the difficult balance between economic success and ecological harmony. For instance, cutting too many trees to make building materials (wood) and you risk forest fires. Add the neat RPG-style personnel management, and the game is quite addictive in the long haul, despite a steep learning curve that may prove too daunting to beginners, and some cumbersome interface designs. Two thumbs up!"--Underdogs

SimEarth: The Living Planet

"This more ambitious follow-up to SimCity lets you play God-- take charge of an entire planet from its birth to its death--10 billion years later. Guide life from its inception as single-celled microbes to a civilization that can reach for the stars. Inspired by James Lovelock's Gaia hypothesis, SimEarth simulates the Earth as one interrelated living organism. It's a solid simulation that unfortunately suffers a bit from the too-dry gameplay and steep learning curve." --Underdogs

SimTower: The Vertical Empire

"A cool little game by Japanese designer Yoot Saito was a big hit on the Macintosh but received only lukewarm response from the PC crowd. Although one can find many faults with the game's underlying mechanics, gameplay is fast, fun, and humorous. Zone a tower and increase its population to raise your score and gain access for more room types. The narrow focus limits the variety of additions you can build for your tower, but there is always enough havoc you must keep under control (e.g. elevator congestion and cockroaches in suites) that it hardly seems to matter. Also check out Yoot Saito's Yoot Tower, the excellent sequel to this gem."--Underdogs

Sinkha - The 3D Multimedia Novel

"Sinkha is essentially a graphic novel with very little interaction, albeit a visually stunning one. As you read the pages and admire the graphics on-screen, you will from time to time come across multimedia elements such as short movie clips or music. But although visually complex, the actual story is muddled and hackneyed, degrades quickly and the characters have about as much emotional depth as sock puppets. However, Sinkha is recommended because its artistic elements are so strong: the designer/artist Marco Patrito spent more than 4 years to produce the art for this CD, and it shows."--Underdogs

"CTA's original IP stars a toon dog called Ralph who must stop his sleepwalking master Lee from waking up. Ralph must bridge gaps, beat up baddies, stop Lee falling into water, inflate his own body and float above obstacles, and generally be a selfless version of man's best friend.

Between each of the major levels, there is a dream sequence where Ralph can collect various tokens and trigger what he "really" thinks should happen to Lee.

The are six huge parallax scrolling main levels and five bonus levels. There are several full motion video sequences setting the story.

There is also a special Amiga 1200 version which has enhanced full motion video and in game graphics." --Moby Games

Soldier

"At first I heard this game sucks... so I didnt go for it, but since they throwed me a copy I decided to give it a chance. Guess what this game is really cool... The plot is supposed to be, like the movie, about a soldier that wants his own revenge cause they refrained him as obsolete (wow... how funny, so yankee... bleah). That's supposed to be the story but as you go further into the game you will encounter a really different (and interesting) story line."--Gamershell.com

"Sequel to Wages of War, Soldiers at War is a squad based tactical game based. Lead a squad of American soldiers in WW2, performing covert operations against the Nazis.

Similar to the first two X-Com games, Soldiers at War is a turn-based, isometric game that enables your soldiers to run and crawl over a decimated European landscape that includes tanks, trains, and ground airplanes.

For each mission, you will pick from the thirty-two men in your platoon, each skilled in a variety of abilities. The men gain experience and grow between missions and can also be wounded or killed. Sophie's World

"
Without a doubt THE best CD-ROM about philosophy ever made, and one of the most unique and original programs you'll ever find, Sophie's World is an amazing adaptation of Jostein Gardner's best-selling book about a girl's introduction to Western philosophy. Similar to the book, Sophie's World is hard to describe-- it is part game, part exploration, part encyclopedia, and sheer wonder. You can go through the "story" of Western philosophy at your leisure in the same way Sophie does in the book-- under guidance of her mysterious philosophy teacher Alberto. There are over twenty 'virtual environments' that present the user with philosophical puzzles and challenges which, when "solved," grant access to the next screen and epoch in philosophy. <>As a research tool, Sophie's World offers the Reference Band and Philosophy Map to access a comprehensive database covering twenty-eight key philosophers and eight epochs from Ancient Greece to the 20th Century. You can also interact with characters, and Alberto is always at hand for any question you have about the origins of the universe and other great philosophical debates. Great graphics and an intriguing story line bring the history of philosophy alive. And if all that isn't enough, the "Big Question" feature groups all philosophers in the program by the big question they try to answer. If you're thinking of buying ONE educational CD-ROM this year, this is it. Highly recommended." --Underdogs

Space Jam

"Space Jam is pretty simple. Aliens invade Tuneland and challenge the Tunes to an intergalactic basketball tournament. But it's not just any pick up game - the outcome decides their eternal fate. Thankfully, basketball hero Michael Jordan steps in to save the day. However, despite the use of much-loved Warner Bros. cartoon characters, Space Jam fails miserably in every category.

"At best, the graphics in Space Jam look 16-bit. No 3-D polygonal characters or texture mapping here. The only redeeming aspect of the game is playing basketball with the Warner Bros. cartoon characters. As a plus, they're well-drawn and have some nice detail. Other than that, Space Jam is a basic 2-D, side-to-side basketball game. This is unfortunate, because plenty of Looney Tunes fans would have supported a graphically hep game."--Game Spot

Spaceship Warlock

"The Terran Empire no longer rules the galaxy. After a pan-galactic battle that lasted a thousand years, mankind lost the war against the powerful Kroll Imperium, as well as their planet. The Kroll moved the planet from its orbit and hid it deep in Krollian space.

You start your adventure in Stambul, a world dominated by the Kroll Imperium. You manage to leave this ugly world and board the spaceship Belshazzar, which is attacked by the pirate ship Warlock. You are captured and taken aboard the pirate vessel, where you will embark on a journey across the galaxy to search for Terra, your stolen planet.

Spaceship Warlock is a science fiction game with a 3rd-person perspective and simple mouse control. The player can pick up things one by one, and collected items are shown in the right bottom corner (the game doesn’t have an inventory). Space Warlock was originally published for the Macintosh in 1990 and ported for the PC in 1994. Despite its age it includes music, voices and lots of animations, and it even runs on Windows XP."

Spirit of Exalibur

"A spiritual descendant of War in Middle Earth, Spirit of Excalibur uses the same engine to tell the tale of what befell Camelot after the death of King Arthur.

You play the role of the regent who holds the throne while chaos spreads through Britain. The game is broken into a number of episodes, which carry the overall plot of trying to restore Arthur's kingdom to some semblance of what it once was. Early episodes involve gathering the Knights of the Round Table, who have broken their fellowship. Because of their general distrust and dislike of certain other members, many knights will only return if asked by certain people and/or are given the correct incentive. Ultimately, you will wage a war on the sons of Mordred, who vie for the same throne their father did and stop the machinations of Morgan LeFay

The game is played on two different levels. The first is a real time map where groups move about from place to place. At any time (or when a group encounters another or a place of importance) you can switch to a 'scene' level, which is a side-view of the group currently highlighted. Here you can pick up, drop, and manipulate quest items." --Moby Games

Star Trek 25th Anniversary
and
Star Trek Judgement Rites

"This tie-in actually missed the 25th Anniversary of Star Trek's TV debut by half a year (nearly 3 years in the case of the Amiga version), but it uses the original series' characters and settings. You start the game from the USS Enterprise, exploring space in search of adventure. When on board the ship you have full control over its destination, and any combat which arises from entering hostile space. You can communicate with other ships, and order repairs for the Enterprise when required.

The adventuring bulk of the game comes in the form of many landing party missions, in which you beam down to the surface of a planet and explore. These play in point and click style, with the ideal goal being to complete them non-violently. However, your performance is rated based on how many extra discoveries and advances you make, and how you interact with the mysterious alien races, so there's value in exploring the surroundings (which look much like they do in the TV series) in further detail."--Mody Games

"Sequel to the award-winning Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, Judgment Rites brings back the entire Enterprise crew in 8 all new episodes. Strange things are happening in distant space, such as dead planets spawning life and WW1 planes in outer space. You need to survive these situations.

You must navigate your way through space, and send away teams onto planets to investigate situations, communicate with other characters and solve puzzles. Unlike the previous game, action sequences are optional."--Moby Games

Stars!

"Undoubtedly one of the best and most underrated 4X strategy games ever made, Stars! is a massive strategic romp through the universe that plays best in multiplayer mode. Your goal? To take over said universe... or any of several other victory goals; universal domination is just the most fun and challenging.

What distinguishes Stars! from other galactic conquer titles is the multi-faceted complexity that is concealed beneath a deceptively simple mouse-driven interface. The game runs smoothly in a window, and everything you need to know about your budding empire (or a thriving war machine) can be accessed via menus or shortcut keys. After choosing the size of the universe you want (five sizes are available, from Tiny to Huge), you can add up to 15 (!) other players, both AI or human. Then you can set this up as play-by-email (PBEM) -- a welcome feature that unfortunately not too many games nowadays support. The beauty of Stars! is that the game gets more complex as you play, without bogging you down with tedious micromanagement. It is not uncommon for a huge battle later in the game to involve hundreds of ships or more, but the interface is so well-designed that managing your fleet is a breeze. The ship design interface is one of my most favorite features in the game: similar to Master of Orion, you can design your own ships by choosing various components. Stars! boasts even more components, and numerous technologies that can upgrade each area. The computer AI is more than adequate, although the game is most fun in multiplayer mode against fellow human commanders. With a top-notch user interface, addictive "just one more turn" gameplay, and a challenging computer player, Stars! is a worthy entrant in our Hall of Belated Fame. Aside from dedicated support to the game, developers Mare Crisium are also hard at work on Stars! Supernova Genesis, the sequel that has all the makings of another underrated classic. Highly recommended! --Underodgs

Star Command - Revolution

"Star Command Revolution is a unique blend of shoot-em-up action and strategy. As such, it has a refreshing feel to it. There's plenty of ship types to play with, and lots of variety to the action, which itself is smooth and very fast-paced. Bullets, rockets, lasers and other weaponry blazes across the screen at breathtaking speed. Battle is not for the feint-hearted. There are a few downsides, notably the single save slot in campaigns, the mysteriously vanishing solinite debris, and the lack of a scrolling speed adjustment. There's plenty of gameplay in the long campaign, though the enemy AI isn't a threat by intelligence but more so by volume. Thus the campaign tends to become more of a chore than an engrossing affair - perhaps GT Interactive needed to work more on the campaign AI to keep it up with the high presentation standard. The long campaign is also broken for 2-player to all intents and purposes because the reload option simply doesn't work. But in one-off battles, particularly multiplayer, the action is quick and ruthless, with games being pleasantly short to complete. Star Command Revolution isn't just a clone game, it has enough novelty in style and presentation to warrant a close look."--Games Domain

Star Control 3

"Since the events in Star Control 2 the Ur-Quan have been pacified and the captain who bravely destroyed the Sa-Matra has had a horrible vision of the future. Suddenly without warning, all Hyperspace travel in the universe has stopped. Top scientists have pinpointed the cause of this disturbance somewhere in unexplored space in an area known as the Kessari Quadrant. Hastily assembling a fleet of ships as and an untested Precusor star drive... a loose alliance of alien races known as The League of Sentient Races sends a task force to the Kessari Quadrant. You are it's commander.

Star Control 3 features a new 3D star map, new alien races to discover, new worlds to explore and colonize, new artifacts to research and a new isometric Hyper Melee battle system for inter-starship battles." --Moby Games

Stay Tooned

"Sierra's ambitious Stay Tooned! is a mix of Saturday Morning Cartoon slapstick and adventure. Gameplay is similar to Monty Python's Complete Waste of Time, a blend of mini-games, QuickTime video clips, and traditional adventure. Much to your dismay, your TV remote is lost somewhere in the apartment building where you live and you have to find it. In the meantime, the toons are running rampant in the building. Steel Panthers 2 - Modern Battles

"This is the sequel to 'Steel Panthers'. While 'Steel Panthers' covered armored warfare from 1939-1945, 'Steel Panthers 2: Modern Battles' focus' on conflicts from 1950-2000. The basic game engine (graphics, user interface etc.) is nearly the same as in part one, with minor (but neat) improvements. One important difference is the size of 'everything' in the game: you play on a bigger map, with more units, which have more statistic values etc.

Included are six campaigns and a bunch of scenarios. An additional campaign generator is also included. The preset campaigns are:

* Germany 1980 (fictional: WW3: stop Soviet advance through Fulda Gap)

* Desert Storm 1991 (should be well known...)

* China-War 1997 (fictional: defend Taiwan against the invading (communist) Chinese Army)

* Okinawa 1998 (fictional: a new US-Japanese war)

* Golan Heights 1973 (should also be well known...)

* Korea 1950 (...dito)" --Moby Games

Stonekeep

"One of the best 'cinematic' RPGs ever made, Stonekeep is an excellent introductory-level single-player first-person RPG that boasts very high production value, but unfortunately suffered in the market due to some game-crashing bugs that should have never made it past beta testing. Once patched, though, Stonekeep shines through with excellent story, immersive gameplay, one of the best user interfaces ever seen in RPGs, and a gentle learning curve that makes the game perfect for newcomers to the genre who find statistics-based RPGs (e.g. Wizardry) too daunting. You are Drake, a hero who finds himself in the ruins of Stonekeep. Your task is to find and rescue Thera, who has been trapped by the evil Shadowking. The game includes a surprisingly well-written novel which describes the backstory about the world, Thera and Stonekeep in great detail, perfectly setting the stage for the actual game." --Underdogs

S.W.I.N.E.

"S.W.I.N.E. is a real-time strategy game in a 3D environment. It looks a bit like Emperor: Battle for Dune, but that's where the similarity ends. In S.W.I.N.E., you do not command humans or robots but - as the name suggests - animal armys :)

The story goes like this: On the 3rd of August, the Swine National Army invaded CarrotLand, home of the Rabbit nation. The poor Rabbits were defeated within two weeks, only a small pack survived and is now planning the counterstrike.

In the first campaign, you are to command the Rabbit forces in their nearly hopeless battle against the evil Swine. The second - and much harder - campaign lets you lead the mighty army of the Swine.

S.W.I.N.E. has a neat concept: you cannot build anything on the battlefield - you select your units before you start the mission. You can take special repair units with you which can recover damaged and even dead units on the fly - for a cost, of course.

S.W.I.N.E. is a RTS game alright, but it doesn't take itself too serious. There are over 6000 speech samples for the Swine and Rabbit soldiers who comment on anything they see or do. When you blast something up, it'll explode in a colourful firework - there's no violence involved. 22 missions (11 for each campaign) and 10 additional multi-player maps and three difficulty settings provide long-lasting fun." --Moby Games

System Shock 2
and
System Shock 1

"Doubtless among the best games ever made, System Shock 2 is a superior RPG/FPS sequel to the 1993 classic System Shock. Anyone who has played and liked the original game needs to try this game. Even those who did not play the first and are looking for a mesmerizing and scary game that blends RPG elements into a first person shooter will enjoy this" --Underdogs

"Looking Glass Technologies' magnum opus before 1998's acclaimed Thief was a vast improvement over the earlier classics Ultima Underworld series. One of the most sought-after underdogs of all time, System Shock is sci-fi action/RPG at its best, featuring vast gameworld, gripping plot centered around a sentient computer gone awry, plenty of high-tech gadgets, and puzzles that integrate seamlessly with well-designed 3D levels. The only downsides are the less-than-intuitive controls and uninspiring cyberspace design. Otherwise, a true classic in every respect." --Underdogs

Terra Nova - Strike Force Centauri

"Strike Force Centauri, the premier Strike Team on Alpha Centauri, was founded to combat pirates. As Nikola ap Io, you'll be leading them into combat... But the pirates are too well armed... And the Terra Hegemony may be involved. When the covert action turns overt and a full-out assault is mounted by the Hegemony upon Alpha Centauri... All that stands in the way is SFC...

TN:SFC is a first-person sci-fi combat sim featuring realistic sci-fi weapons with true 3-D terrain. You control a power-suit with arm-mounted weapons: just aim (with mouse) and shoot, while move completely independently (using keyboard). "

"TN:SFC also features FMV that rivals Wing Commander 3 in production quality. The plot is the standard "fight simple threats that turns out to be really nasty while ferreting out the mole", but there are enough twists in the plot to be entertaining." --Moby Games

Theme Park

"One of the most original strategy games ever made, Bullfrog's Theme Park is a fun "light" business simulation that fulfills a childhood dream of many people: manage a theme park. While the game has a questionable economic model (I've never understood the logic of pricing entrance tickets in the game, or how much to charge for that ice cream), and will never win any accolades as a "realistic" business sim, Theme Park excels in the fun department. Starting out with an empty plot of land, you must first build a few "basic" attractions (such as the merry-go-round) and necessities such as the ice cream parlor and toilets to open for business. You must also hire handymans and mechanics to help ensure that your visitors will leave with a bright smile on their faces. With soaring visitors and better reputation, you can afford to research better and more exciting rides, and by the time you're building that expensive rollercoaster, you'll find that the game has kept you up for countless hours.

What makes Theme Park a lot of fun, other than colorful rides you can build, is the joy of watching your tiny visitors. They will laugh after an exciting ride, get lost, storm out of your park in anger at waiting too long at the queue, or even vomit after a stomach-churning ride on the rollercoaster. If you don't like to micro-manage your park (e.g. setting prices of an ice cream cone), you can choose to let the computer decide for you at lower difficulty level, leaving you free to design the park of your dreams. With colorful graphics, unique and fun gameplay, Theme Park is one of the best games Bullfrog ever made. Two thumbs up!" --Underdogs

TFX: Tactical Fighter eXperiment

"For those who want a fun combat flight sim, this one is for you. Tactical Fighter Experiment, or TFX, is a game that lets you fly the Nighthawk F-117A Stealth Fighter, the Eurofighter 2000, and the Lockheed F-22 Superstar, in various missions, or arcade battles. You can customize ammunition on the fighters, and have a lot of control over them."

"One of the best parts of TFX is the music and sound. The music is very enjoyable and gets you into the game; it actually reminds me of the music from Topgun, which fits perfectly with this game seeing both have the same theme. One of the cool things in this game concerning sound is the developer’s use of real voices, instead of just some text on the screen. The sound is a bit low quality, but does a good job of creating the ambience for this game.

You can use either a joystick or a keyboard to fly your plane, though I recommend trying to find an old game port joystick for this game. The game doesn’t seem to run in WinXP, nor VDMSound, so DOS-BOX or Pure DOS is your best bet. I have to say this was one of the best games I have ever reviewed, and you should give it a try, especially if you are a flight sim fan." --Abandonia

Third Reich

"A faithful adaptation of the famous boardgame, this version was the best ever done; note that this does not mean it is really good, just that it is the best ever done. The main problem is that it was perhaps too faithful to its paper antecedents -- and it did not even reflect the newest edition of the paper version. For a novice, this simulation is virtually unplayable; for true believers, it will offer a fix for those lacking human companionship." [excerpt from M. Evan Brooks' Homepage]

Although Third Reich disappointed many die-hard wargamers when it was first released, the latest patch (1.38, which you can download below) fixes most of the problems to make the game shine like it was meant to be. Definitely a must-have if you are interested in a realistic, complex simulation of WWII conflict-- be sure to apply the patch, though ;)" --Underdogs

Turrican II - The Final Fight

was one of the best games to see its light on the Amiga and is probably the best action game ever produced on any platform.4 years(!) after the initial Amiga release, Rainbow Arts released the IBM-PC version of this classic shooter with very little fanfare. How does it compare to the Amiga game? Well, surprisingly not that bad at all. Scrolling is ultra-smooth, gameplay is nearly as good as in the original game, and the graphics - though slightly changed to the Amiga game - are great. I can't tell about the music as I didn't get the music to work on my PCI soundcard, but I suppose Sun-Project used a TFMX playing routine to reproduce the orig"Ok, let's face it: Factor 5's Turrican IIinal Amiga music on the IBM-PC port and that, of course, would be great as the music was one of the best ever heard in a computer game. Turok 2 - Seeds of Evil

"The sequel to Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. Having defeated the Chronoceptor, Turok throws the leftovers into a waiting volcano, only to awaken an even deadlier force - The Primagen - who lays in wait for his freedom from a wrecked space craft, buried at the core of the Lost Land. Now it is up to Turok to once again restore peace to the land, and stop the Primagen from merging Earth with the nether world. New weapons, better graphics, more Turok!!" --Moby Games

Total Distortion

"This game is an expansive adventure, music video generator, and business sim all-in-one. The storyline goes as follows: You've spent every last penny of your money buying an expensive music video production tower and having it blasted off into another dimension. In order to complete the game you must earn enough money (minimum of $1 million) to blast your tower back home. To earn money you must make music videos. Dozens of songs and video clips are provided for you, and you must construct a "bonzai" video that one of three music TV producers would like and strike deals with them. But sometimes the clips and songs given don't cut it, and you must venture out into the world and film different clips yourself. Every once in a while you must have a duel to the death with a guitar monster. You also must recruit singers for your videos to improve your song quality, singers such as Johnny Fang and Edgar Death. All in all its a very large game with weeks of playing time." --Moby Games

Tunguska - Legend of Faith

"Tunguska is a 3d action adventure game in which you play Jack Riley, an inter-dimensional traveler.

The main objective is to decode the secret of the Castle of the Order of Tunguska, where he finds himself after he's accidentally caught by the 'powers of darkness'.

The game involves tactical real-time fighting, in which you advance by a skill/level based system, as well as a lot of classic adventure gaming and puzzle solving. When you decode the secret of the Castle, the powers of darkness will be defeated and Jack is free to continue his journey.

The 3D rendered world is based on Exortus' self-developed game engine and the view is 3-dimensional in non-isometric, 3rd person." --Moby Games

Tunnel B1

"A solid PC conversion of Neon's PlayStation 3D action shooter Tunnel B1. You glide around with your B1 hovercraft through dark futuristic tunnels shooting everything that moves. Overall, this is a nice action shooter with decent graphics and good sound. Sadly, the best part of the game, the background music by Chris Huelsbeck, is missing in this CD-rip. Still, great graphics, varied types of enemies, and challenging levels make for a fun game. Two thumbs up!" --Underdogs

NOTE: there's nothing to be sad about here at ISO Art, as we always include the music, and everything else.

Tyrian 2000

"Tyrian 2000 is a direct rerelease of the original action smash, Tyrian. It is essentially the same game with an additional new episode (Hazudra Fodder), a revised engine (less bugs and better controls) and added Windows support. It also adds another option called "Timed Battle".

Tyrian is nothing like your run-of-the-mill shoot-'em-up. It gained a following even larger than the classic Raptor: Call of the Shadows, and rightfully so: it has a plot. A plot, you ask? Yes. And even a complex one. You play the role of Trent Hawkings, this galaxy's ace solo fighter-pilot, whose luck forces him to save the galaxy, one time after another. Again and again, Trent must fight off MicroSol, a company with the evil intent of taking over the galaxy. Through your struggles, you will find yourself again and again betrayed by friends and allies, your parents will be killed and you will have to return to points you've already been to (with variations on the levels) in order to remove further threats to the galaxy and to yourself, all for the ultimate goal of overthrowing MicroSol.

Tyrian also has two player arcade mode and supports network/modem/serial play. It features a multi-layered ship upgrade engine, in which you can change hulls, decide upon and upgrade your front and rear weapons, buy better shields and generators and even add ship "sidekicks". Tyrian's complete arsenal amound to over a dozen type of ships and over 100 weapon types!" --Moby Games
